- Because of its complexity, chess is, in general, more suitable for older children and adults than younger children
Article - Many children start chess too young, learn too quickly, and some also play in tournaments before they’re ready
Article - There is no evidence that chess has a unique, long-term effect on children’s academic performance
Article - Many younger children would benefit from having a less busy life with fewer extracurricular activities
Article - All older children will benefit socially from joining sports, activity or hobby clubs outside school
Article - Therefore children’s chess should move towards promoting social rather than educational benefits, and attracting older rather than younger children
